MOHRE : Wages must be paid on time through the Wage Protection System

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) stressed that employers must pay employees' wages on time and as contracted through the Wage Protection System (WPS).

This is in line with the ministerial decision implementing the federal law regulating labour relations and is part of the enhanced protection of the labour market, which increases the attractiveness and productivity of the market and the stability of contractual labour relations, a key objective of the labour market law system.

Mohsen Al Nassi, Director of the Inspection Systems Department at the Ministry, said that workers should receive their salaries on time according to their employment contracts, as this is their right and employers must abide by it.

Al Nassi urged employers to fully comply with the wage protection system, which operates under the strategic partnership with the UAE Central Bank through an electronic mechanism that facilitates the payment of wages.

According to the ministerial decision, the ministry has set out a methodology for the procedures to be taken against establishments that fail to comply with the WPS, depending on the lateness, size of the establishment, number and percentage of employees who have not received their wages, Al Nassi said.

He highlighted the importance of the ministry's e- inspection system that monitors the payment of wages, especially during on-site visits to non-compliant establishments, and encouraged their owners to pay wages through the system.
