Labour Market Observatory: A window on the future of employment in UAE

By: Her Excellency Shayma Al Awadhi, Assistant Undersecretary for Communication and International Relations, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE)

Data and information - and efforts to ensure their availability - are among the most significant features of advanced economies in the modern era, due to their critical role in supporting decision-makers and providing them with the necessary indicators to help develop all business sectors.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation launched the UAE Labour Market Observatory as a strategic tool designed to enhance transparency and support UAE labour market competitiveness by providing periodic, integrated data and information on key labour market indicators, including global competitiveness indexes, outcomes of labour regulation policies, cutting-edge programmes and initiatives, and other relevant topics that contribute to the development of the business sector and promote the country's sustainable development.

The Observatory has various objectives that align with the Ministry's labour market vision and strategy. Accurate and up-to-date data and information boost transparency and competitiveness, contribute to attracting more investments, create new job opportunities, and enhance the work environment. The Labour Market Observatory serves as a valuable resource for decision-makers in the government and private sectors, providing them with the data and analysis they need to develop effective policies and programmes for regulating the labour market. Furthermore, it contributes towards raising awareness about the different facets of the labour market, while also assisting job seekers in making well-informed decisions regarding their career.

The initiative plays a significant role, as the Observatory offers a window on the future of work in the UAE, and a platform to support the country's economic ambitions and digital transformation plans, all the while enhancing the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own digital services. It reflects the Ministry's ongoing efforts to develop the labour market and create an attractive environment for global talent and investments. The Labour Market Observatory constitutes a notable step forward towards achieving the UAE's vision, which calls for building a sustainable knowledge-based economy and strengthening the country's position as a global hub for business and innovation.
