MOHRE organises virtual workshops to raise awareness of the wage protection system

Saturday, 19 March 2022

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has organised virtual workshops to raise awareness on the importance of private sector companies’ compliance with paying their employees' wages through the Wage Protection System (WPS) in accordance with the related ministerial decision issued in implementation of the Federal Decree Law Regulating Labour Relations and its implementing regulations. About 380 employers and officials from establishments in different sectors of the economy participated.

Qassim Jamil, Director of the Department of Guidance at the ministry, said the workshops are being held as part of a plan by the ministry to raise awareness among employers about the need to pay wages on their due dates and to the extent agreed in employment contracts through the wage protection system, as well as the positive impact on the stability of the employment relationship and increasing workers' productivity.

Jamil explained that the workshops discussed the requirements for participation in the WPS and how wages are paid during the worker's leave, as well as the progressive measures that the Ministry takes against establishments that do not commit to paying wages on time through the system, depending on the periods of late payment, the size of the establishment and the number and percentage of workers who do not receive their wages.

Through a strategic partnership with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, the WPS operates under an electronic mechanism that facilitates the payment of wages.
