“Human Resources and Emiratisation” calls on establishments to adhere to the wage protection system

Wednesday, 19 January 2022

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) called on private sector companies to pay their workers' wages through the Wage Protection System (WPS) on the scheduled dates.

Maher Al Obed, Assistant Under-Secretary for Inspection Affairs at MoHRE, said, "The establishments' commitment to pay wages on time would increase the stability of the contractual relationship between the parties and contribute significantly to increasing workers' productivity by paying wages on time and at the specified amount."

He stressed that the MoHRE seeks to promote balanced and stable relations between employers and employees based on mutual understanding and transparency in accordance with the contracts concluded between them, especially the right of the employee to receive his wages in return for his obligation to fulfill his work duties, which improves the legal practice in the labor market in the country.

Al Obed pointed out that the mechanism of the WPS enables employers to fulfill their obligations to their employees in the easiest way through the strategic partnership with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.

He urged employers to register and document any agreement with their employees to change wages through the approved systems and procedures applied by the MoHRE in this regard.

He also advised employers to use the 'Statement of Account' service to view the report that provides them with a comprehensive description of the establishment's position in the payment of wages through the WPS to ensure their commitment to transfer wages on time.

The MOHRE provides the above service to establishments registered with it on a monthly basis. In doing so, a comprehensive interactive report is emailed to employers to proactively inform them of the status of the facility in the Ministry's records so that they have first-hand access to all data and information related to their facilities' files and the status of their employees.

It is noteworthy that the UAE has pioneered the launch of the system, which has been praised by the International Labor Organization since its launch in 2009 and later adopted by many countries as an electronic mechanism that ensures workers receive their wages on time.
